History of KwanZaa

Los Angeles is home to many firsts. KwanZaa happens to be one of these FIRSTS. KwanZaa is unique. At first we had no Idea of the importance of Kwanzaa, we of course had an empirical understanding of KwanZaa, the hidden foundation of KwanZaa had been sown in 96 AD when the Book of Revelations was published. In Revelations 13, verse 18 the words of the verse say “Here is for those who have wisdom the mark of the beast is the number of a man and his number is ‘666’. Dec. 26, 1966 adds to 6, 1302 adds to 6 and Santa Barbra is the code name our ancestors used to hide the worship of Sango and Sango is pictured as being a man, not just a man, but a King who fights for Justice, THE champion of the Underdog AND HIS NUMBER IS 6. This took place at 6:00 PM where Raymond and now King Blvd form a south facing “T.” R=2, a=1, y=1, m=4, o=7, n=5, y=4=6 and the address on Raymond is 4011, another 6. All of this takes place under the aegis of a 99% Gibbous Full Moon. KwanZaa started a new era, a new age here in los Angeles, CA within 1 mile of the LA vortex. I did not make any of this up. All of this took place at the living room of Dr. Alfred and Bernice Ligon owners of the Aquarian Spiritual Center and Bookshop.

KwanZaa Kalenda

KwanZaa's origin cannot be simplified. The coming of KwanZaa fulfilled a prophecy that was predetermined by those who studied the Stars. While KwanZaa is given credit to Ron Karenga the stellar shifts had l ong been studied by Nile Valley Civilizations over the millinea. The next character in line was known by those who had privy to the STELLAR Kalenda. The Man following the Fish sign brought in the new era. The human drama can be likened to finger prints compared to the cosmos. Malcolm X, Arthur Graham, Ron Karenga in that chain interacted as Chombo (vessels) to bring KwanZaa into existence. Malcolm desired to bring his people together, Graham provided the guiding principles and Karenga's US Organization became the womb that birthed the New Era into existence. Human fragility drives people to claim originality, but what happens provides the drama.

RW Akile

Born here in Los Angeles RW Akile has a long record being involved in activism. Teaching about KwanZaa has led Akile to become recognized as a keeper of WEUSI (African American) culture. Akile's presentations demonstrate how and where KwanZaa (not by name) is spoken of in Biblical and in Islamic prophecy. With the birth of KwanZaa on December 26, 1966 a prophecy was fulfilled and a new era began. In 1975 Akile began producing a KwanZaa Calendar as a means of reinforcing the Nguzo Saba. While stutter starting the KwanZaa Calendar the first edition showing Adinkra symbols was for 1977. After a period of hiatus we began printing a Kalenda that starting on Wakwanzaa 1, (Dec. 26) with the Festival of KwanZaa opening the year. The KwanZaa Gwaride (Procession) began in 1977 with a 2 Car Procession traveled from Leimert Park to Watts on December 26, 1977. From 1979 to 2001 the Gwaride was staged on "The Saturday during KwanZaa." From 2002 till now the Gwaride OPENS the KwanZaa New Year every December 26 as WaKwanZaa 1. The 49th KwanZaa Gwaride opens the 60th year of the KwanZaa Era celebrating the Year of Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics).
